Qatar does not levy personal income tax on salaries for expatriate employees or Qatari nationals. Your gross salary is essentially your pre-deduction salary. The main deductions are GPSSF contributions for Qatari nationals (5% of basic salary), medical insurance, and any personal loan repayments agreed with the employer. This makes Qatar one of the most tax-friendly countries for working professionals globally.
GPSSF stands for General Pension and Social Security Fund. It applies only to Qatari nationals and permanent residents enrolled in the scheme. The employee contribution is 5% of basic salary and the employer contributes 10%. Expat employees are not enrolled in GPSSF, which is why their net pay is typically higher relative to gross compared to local nationals.
Housing allowance is paid as a fixed monthly amount on top of basic salary. It is fully taxable in countries that tax income, but since Qatar has no personal income tax, the full housing allowance reaches your account. Typical housing allowances range from QAR 1,000 to QAR 3,000 per month depending on the company and seniority level. Some companies provide company accommodation instead of cash allowance.
Qatar introduced a non-discriminatory minimum wage in 2021. As of 2026, the minimum monthly wage is QAR 1,000 for basic salary, plus QAR 500 for food allowance and QAR 500 for accommodation allowance, totalling QAR 2,000 per month if the employer does not provide food and accommodation. Employers providing free housing and meals are not required to pay those separate allowances.
Multiply your QAR amount by the current QAR/INR exchange rate. As of 2026, 1 QAR ≈ ₹23 INR (this fluctuates daily). For example, a QAR 7,000 monthly salary ≈ ₹1,61,000.
