Compare all money transfer services from Qatar to India. Find the best exchange rate and lowest fees to maximize your INR received.
Wise uses the real mid-market rate with a small transparent fee. No hidden charges. Trusted by 16M+ customers globally.
In 2026, Wise (TransferWise) remains the cheapest option for most transfer amounts due to its use of the mid-market exchange rate and a small percentage-based fee (typically 0.4%–0.7%). For cash pickups and smaller amounts, Al Ansari Exchange and LuLu Exchange offer competitive in-store rates. Bank wire transfers via QNB, Commercial Bank, or QIIB are typically 1–2% more expensive than Wise but may be preferred if you already have accounts with them.
There is no official daily limit set by Qatar's government for personal remittances. However, individual service providers have their own limits: Wise limits vary by verification tier (up to $1M per month for verified accounts). Al Ansari Exchange typically allows up to QAR 50,000 per transaction. Banks may require documentation for large single transfers. In India, NRE accounts have no cap on foreign currency credit, while NRO accounts have a $1M annual repatriation limit for NRIs.
Money remitted from abroad to India is generally not taxed in India at the point of receipt, as it represents income already earned abroad. If you are an NRI, income earned outside India and remitted to India is not taxable in India. However, any interest earned on that money in an NRO savings account in India is taxable. Consult a CA to understand the tax implications based on your residency status and the nature of the funds.
NRE (Non-Resident External) accounts are preferable for most remittances: they are fully repatriable, the balance and interest are tax-free in India, and the rupee equivalent of the foreign currency is freely transferable back abroad. NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) accounts hold INR and are suitable for income earned in India (like rent or dividends). For salary transfers from Qatar, NRE accounts are almost always the better choice.
