Frequently Asked Questions

What is SIP (Systematic Investment Plan)?

SIP is a method of investing a fixed amount every month in mutual funds. Each month the amount buys units at the current NAV. Over time, you benefit from rupee cost averaging (buying more units when prices are low) and compounding returns.

What is the expected return rate for SIP in India?

Equity mutual funds have historically delivered 12-15% CAGR over long term (10+ years) in India. Large-cap funds: ~11-13%, Mid-cap: ~13-16%, Small-cap: ~14-18% (with higher risk). Debt funds: ~6-8%. Past returns do not guarantee future performance.

What is step-up SIP?

Step-up SIP means increasing your monthly SIP amount by a fixed percentage every year. For example, if you start with Rs 10,000/month and step up 10% yearly, it becomes Rs 11,000 in year 2, Rs 12,100 in year 3, etc. Step-up SIP significantly increases your corpus due to higher contributions compounding over time.

Is SIP investment tax-free?

ELSS (Equity Linked Saving Scheme) SIPs qualify for Section 80C deduction up to Rs 1.5 lakh/year under Old Tax Regime. LTCG on equity SIPs above Rs 1 lakh/year is taxed at 12.5% (post-Budget 2024). STCG (within 1 year) taxed at 20%.

What is the minimum SIP amount in India?

Most mutual funds allow SIP starting from Rs 100-500/month. Popular platforms like Groww, Zerodha Coin, and Scripbox offer SIPs from Rs 100/month. There is no maximum limit. You can have multiple SIPs across different fund houses simultaneously.
